Managing the Negativity Bias

The **6Ps of Processing Feedback** were developed to navigate the psychological friction inherent in receiving negative feedback. While humans are biologically hardwired with a negativity bias, these six tools allow us to “spill light into the future,” turning a critique of the past into a roadmap for mastery.

1. Poise Quieting the mind and feeling the feelings that arise without letting them dictate the response.
2. Process Using logical filters, such as the **Feedback Decision Tree**, to categorize and evaluate the input.
3. Positionality Understanding the power dynamics and professional relationship between the giver and the receiver.
4. Percolate Allowing time for the feedback to sit and undergo transformation (see: **Feedback Compost**).
5. Proceed Making the conscious choice to move forward with integration or to intentionally discard the feedback.
6. Perspective Stepping back to observe how this specific piece of feedback fits into your long-term professional journey.
