*Official Press Release for the United Mixed Martial Arts Organization*

This isn’t just another Athletic Program… This is MMA.

MMAconnects Inc. is pleased to announce the formation of the United Mixed Martial Arts Organization (EIN #: 45-4046081). An International 501c3, founded in Roswell, Georgia, the U.M.M.A.O. is the organization responsible for the development and implementation of informative, encouraging, organized, unified, sanctioned, insured and fully sponsored Mixed Martial Arts Programs in schools, colleges and universities throughout the world.

The United Mixed Martial Arts Organization, in conjunction with MMAconnects Inc, is offering fully sponsored, unified, organized, sanctioned, informative, encouraging and insured Mixed Martial Arts Programs to every school, college and university. Our Programs, curriculum written by Adam Singer of The Hardcore Gym in Athens, Georgia, will also serve as a feeder Program for MMASF’s Team USA MMA and will provide thousands of jobs for our Military veterans through Hire Heroes USA.

Mixed Martial Arts has come a long way during it’s 18 years on US soil. It’s because of the dedication and hard work that the UFC, other reputable promotion companies and the sanctioning bodies have done to legitimize this elite sport, that we are able to have made this announcement today. Thank you.

“Whether you do it for fitness, self-discipline, just for fun or to feed your family, MMA is not just a sport, it’s a way of life.” – Gianni Cerretani, COO, MMAconnects Inc.

Butterfly Sweep for Defense

The butterfly sweep is an excellent maneuver to use for self-defense, particularly for women because it relies on hip movement and rhythm rather than strength, and because it can make the weight advantage from an attacker a disadvantage. Maggie demonstrates how.

Punch Defense then Guard Sweep

The guard position is all about sensitivity to the person on top. This means awareness of their hips, their pressure, and when they give an opening. Here, Maggie protects herself then sweeps to achieve a top position.

Sit-Out for Self-Defense

Many see this move in wrestling or BJJ competition, but it applies beautifully to self-defense – that’s actually its roots. Here, Maggie demonstrates how the more weight and pressure I use on top, the better she’s able to escape.

How to Safely Stand Up in Combat

Believe it or not, there’s a proper way to stand up. This method is proven in BJJ as it allows you to be constantly aware of distance and spacing.

MMA for Women’s Self-Defense

Many definitions of the word “fitness” are linked to the word “survival.” We tend to think of being physically or mentally “fit” as fitness, but when it comes to survival, fitness can be considered a matter of life and death. With the rise of MMA and the martial arts, so too should there be a rise in public consciousness (particularly for women) about the way to defend ourselves in an unexpected hand-to-hand combative situation.

The videos below are part of a series of 2-minute video clips that may help you protect yourself if an unfortunate circumstance occurs.

MMA Diet: Cutting Weight

Cameron’s latest piece for Sherdog addresses some of the nutritional implications of cutting weight. Click here to read the full article. Here’s an excerpt:

“Cutting weight in MMA is like sexual intercourse – it’s going to happen. Those in the MMA nutrition field who, in their vehement tirades against the act, do not educate those on what can happen and why they are no different than those who promote the ineffective and detrimental abstinence-only sexual health education agenda.”
